Birtley, County Durham, UK, 2nd December 2024 – Parker Hannifin, a global leader in motion and control technologies, is playing a key role in enhancing biopharma manufacturing training in Europe, thanks to a new partnership with The National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training (NIBRT) in Dublin.
Through the partnership, Parker Hannifin’s Parker Bioscience Filtration division has donated a SciLog® FD System to NIBRT, enabling the institute’s students to gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art biopharma industry technology.
The SciLog® FD System is an automated single-use system developed for the final bulk filtration and dispensing of formulated biopharmaceutical drug substance. It is designed to enable safe, efficient and accurate processing of biopharmaceutical products.
The system automates key biopharma processes, including the filtration and dispensing of products into sterile bags or bottles, while ensuring both operator safety and product integrity. It supports a variety of dispensing methods, features real-time integrity testing, and offers electronic batch records and audit trails for regulatory compliance.
NIBRT is a global centre of excellence for training and research in biopharmaceutical manufacturing, and its facility is purpose built to closely replicate a modern bioprocessing plant.
Parker’s donation will provide the opportunity for NIBRT students to gain direct experience of automated systems used in commercial biopharma production.
Training on the SciLog® FD System will help them to develop versatile skills applicable to a range of bioprocessing environments, and demonstrate how a system can maximise efficiency, minimise product loss and ensure product safety.
As the SciLog® FD System meets GMP, FDA, and EU regulations, students training on the equipment will also gain experience of working in compliance with global industry practices.
David Heaney, Division Marketing Manager at Parker Hannifin’s Bioscience Division, commented: “Parker Bioscience Filtration is delighted to be able to support the fantastic work done at NIBRT and this partnership demonstrates our commitment to supporting the development of the biopharma manufacturing industry.
“The addition of the Scilog® FD to NIBRT’s portfolio will allow biopharma professionals to gain experience using a single-use, automated and fully enclosed bulk filling system. This is increasingly important in the bioprocessing industry as new regulatory and quality concerns continue to drive the prominence of enclosed processing, particularly at this crucial process step, post downstream processing.”
Commenting on the partnership, Kate Cotter, Director of Training Delivery at NIBRT, said: "We are excited to partner with Parker in this important initiative. The donation of the SciLog® FD System aligns with NIBRT’s mission to provide the highest standard of biopharma training. Our trainees will benefit enormously from working with this advanced technology, preparing them to enter the workforce with industry-relevant skills and experience."
