Birtley, County Durham, UK, 27th January 2025 – Parker Hannifin, a global leader in motion and control technologies, has enhanced its support for bottled water manufacturers with the development of an innovative new filter solution.
Parker Bioscience Filtration, a division of Parker Hannifin, has launched BEVPOR Caustic Stable, a filter designed to provide microbiological safety of bottled water while withstanding higher concentrations of Sodium Hydroxide – known as caustic – present in some aggressive Clean In Place (CIP) processes.
BEVPOR Caustic Stable was developed for use by bottled water manufacturers who need to employ higher concentrations (typically more than 2%) of Sodium Hydroxide than the industry norm in their CIP regimes.
CIP processes are used to regenerate filters used in the batch processing and packaging of beverages. More aggressive CIP processes may be required in cases where a specific blockage or fouling material present in a process fluid can’t be broken down by industry standard concentrations of Sodium Hydroxide, or where a higher concentration is a specific standard operating procedure requirement.
However, standard membrane filters can be damaged, and their integrity compromised by high concentrations of Sodium Hydroxide, leading to decreased production efficiency and increased operational expenditure, while putting product quality and consumer safety at risk.
As it can withstand more aggressive CIP processes while still providing high throughputs and microbial stability, Parker Bioscience Filtration’s BEVPOR Caustic Stable filter offers a cost effective and efficient filtration alternative for bottled water manufacturers.
BEVPOR Caustic Stable utilizes a high performance, asymmetric PES membrane which provides complete sterility in accordance with ASTM F838-20, and has been designed for use in the final stabilization of water prior to bottling or canning.
It joins Parker’s BEVPOR range of filters, which include BEVPOR PH filter cartridges, which have been designed for final stabilization of a range of beverages prior to filling operations, and BEVPOR BR filters, which protect the unique characteristics of beer by removing yeast and other spoilage organisms to ensure microbial stability during cold stabilization.
Mark Richardson, Processing Product Manager at Parker Bioscience Filtration, said: “Born from our close relationship with the bottled water industry and engineered with our problem-solving approach, BEVPOR Caustic Stable is an important addition to our BEVPOR product portfolio.
“It will enable manufacturers which employ aggressive CIP regimes to benefit from the increased process control and operational efficiency offered by our BEVPOR range, and help them to protect their beverages from contamination prior to bottling.”
