THE CHALLENGE
Like many other industries, forestry has experienced a boom in technological innovations that have led to increased productivity, safety and overall efficiency. The once time-consuming and dangerous "steep slope" logging process of harvesting timber from a steep hillside has been transformed by the use of retrofitted construction equipment specifically designed to meet the unique needs of forestry.
One of the most popular retrofit packages for forestry is the winch aid, which usually consists of an "anchor machine" and a "harvester machine" connected by a wire rope. The winch system, which supports the "harvester" in harsh locations and demanding conditions such as high altitudes, steep slopes, heavy duty cycles and extreme weather conditions, has made the use of hand felling on the ground almost obsolete. This has reduced this once dangerous harvesting task and provided the forestry industry with a more efficient and safer alternative.
THE SOLUTION
As an evolution of the V14 hydraulic motor series, Parker now offers the new V16 series.
This product is a new generation of variable displacement, curved-axle motors that are suitable for forestry applications in terms of displacement (220 and 270 cc), speed and improved performance.
Performance improvements of the V16 over the V14 include the ability to
- Reduce displacement to zero for better fuel economy.
- The ability to control speed and draft with the same control, compared to previous equipment with the V14, which could only be used for speed or draft.
Other product features include the V16's nine-piston design, which provides high starting torque and smooth operation.
